I guess Genesis framework does not need an introduction in 2017. Genesis is one of the most popular WordPress theme frameworks available till date and used by more than 200,000 bloggers including some of the well known professional bloggers. The reason behind such popularity of this framework is it’s easy to use core functionalities that allow theme developers and users customize and create child theme easily. The basic framework costs approx $60 and StudioPress has a good collection of child themes for different niches. Other than StudioPress there is a wide variety of premium and free child themes available from third-party developers.
In this article, I’ll list some of the free Genesis framework child themes that are no way less than the premium ones. A few years back I created a list of free responsive Genesis child themes, those will be excluded here. Most of the themes in this list
Concise
Concise is a modern and minimal child theme for Genesis framework with an elegant looking landing page for conversion-focused websites. The typography combination of the theme is also great. The theme files are available on Calvin Koepke’s Github including a zip file along with two other Genesis child themes included below.
Letter
This is another minimal theme from Calvin Koepke for those looking for a distraction-free theme for their blog. The default theme fonts make this theme best match for personal blogs. Letter theme features a landing page with a fullwidth featured article on top and two small columns below that.
Minny +
Minny plus theme has fullwidth featured images and comes with three different page layouts inbuilt. With a little customization, one can easily turn this theme into a magazine style WordPress theme.
Kimi
Kimi is a clean and elegant looking theme for business websites, with a slogan area on the landing page. The theme is optimized for speed and features several page layout options like fullwidth, content/sidebar, sidebar/content etc. Also, Kimi is fully responsive and integrated Schema.org markups.
There are two other free Genesis child themes available from the same developer fasterWP. As the design of them looks similar to the Kimi theme I’ll just list them without any separate descriptions.
Aiko
Aiko is also developed by fasterWP but the theme has a completely different flavor than the previous ones. It is a magazine type theme and suits best for fashion, lifestyle, gadget blogs. This theme can be called a free alternative of the Genesis Magazine theme.
Adaptation
Mobile first adaption theme is developed by Art of Genesis team. The theme is built on the modern HTML5 introduced in Genesis a few years back to provide compatibility for modern mobile devices.
Diligent
If you think free themes have a limited functionality then you need to check Diligent Genesis child theme. It features six different color options, homepage grid, four different page layouts, custom background support, custom theme option and more.
Novo
Novo is free child theme from Zigzagpress. The theme has a bunch of customization options like skin colours, 6+ page templates, more than 5 homepage template, innovative landing page. The sidebar of the theme is collapsible.
Endless
Endless a free theme from the creator of Genesis framework Brian Gardner. It’s an elegant looking responsive theme for personal blogs.
Mobile First
It’s another minimal theme developed by Brian Gardner. This theme features a three section footer, four different page layout options and fully responsive.
Few more …
In this list, I’ve only listed some of the personal favorites, but there are more free Genesis child themes available. If you know about any other modern and responsive child themes that should be included in this list, please share in the comments section.

Thanks for your feedback.
Frankly, I didn’t even know that all these free genesis themes existed. I have been using the paid ones like Parallax Pro, to create my websites and I must say that all these themes I used are fluidic and load at a lightning speed.
Thank you for the information.
Regards.
